Plenty of ways to reduce CO2 emissions from transport

According to the final report from a workshop on transport (with Risø DTU as main organizer and held within the framework of DTU Climate Change Technologies) it was found that the most important thing is to get the transport sector integrated into the overall energy system. By land, air and sea, there are plenty of ways to reduce CO2 emissions from transport.

Security of supply and climate change are high on the global energy agenda. And the transport sector is no exception as virtually every means of transport by land, air and sea uses fossil fuels and thus emits CO2. Moreover, energy consumption for transport purposes represents 20% of the world’s total energy consumption.

The most important thing is to introduce renewable energy in the transport sector and have the sector integrated in the energy system. By land, air and sea there are plenty of opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions.

The report:

How do we convert the transport sector to renewable energy and improve the sector’s interplay with the energy system? Main findings and recommendations from Workshop on transport – renewable energy in the transport sector and planning, Technical University of Denmark, 17 – 18 March 2009 Hans Larsen and Leif Sønderberg Petersen (editors)
